Penetration to an elk shoulder
I kept both shoulder blades from my elk this year.I wanted to see if my hunting arrow would penetrate the shoulder blade. (I know they are dry and do not similate a real life scenario, but they will have to do). Pretty amazing the results. I took pictures, so enjoy.
I shoot a GT, 28" DL, 72 lbs, Easton FMJs. 17 Dec I was just wondering about how much KE would be needed if you made a not so good shoulder shot on a deer? and another question is about how much KE is needed on game such as elk, moose, boar etc, large game animals. thanks guys.. .

Description:I remember seeing some old Hilbre style heads that were curled up and had the tips of Razorheads do the same before I filed a chisel end on them. If you miss and hit forward too much you run the risk of smashing shoulder bone or even the ball and socket joint. It appeared that upon impact the head did not penetrate the ridge or near it and completely failed by the ferrule bending and popping two of the blades at the welds. This becomes particularly important during the archery hunts. We had already taken photos and were in the process of deboning and my hands were too nasty to get the photos. Do you think the shot was fatal? With an arrow though it can more difficult.
